Matthew 17:13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist
One special benefit you get when you spend time with God by fellowshipping with the holy spirit is that he reveals God’s ways to you more and more (John 14:26). The disciples of Jesus enjoyed these special privileges when they were with Jesus. The bible recorded that when Jesus spoke to the Pharisees and scribes in parables, he will usually interpret it to the disciples in private (Mark 4:34). What a privilege!!
Likewise today, as a Christian, the more you spend time with God in fellowshipping via prayers, fasting, word studying, listening to God’s word, etc, the Spirit will usually reveal God’s ways to you. David said in Psalms 119:11 that the word of God has he laid in his heart that he might not sin against God. This is important because when you understand God, you are most likely to work in his will. A lot of Christians makes decisions they live to regret for the rest of their life because they lacked an insight in God’s word; they didn’t really understand the implication of what they were doing.
Our theme verse said the disciples understood that he spoke of John the Baptist. Why the others were still waiting for Isaiah to come as prophesied in the Old Testament. The disciples knew John was the prophet Isaiah that is to come, because Jesus told them. That therefore changes how they saw John. For example, the bible says he that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward (Matthew 10:41). However if you don’t know and you receive them as a man, you will not receive the prophetic reward.
