Laziness Brings Poverty

Proverbs 10:4- Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. (NIV)

What does it really mean to be lazy? In this context to be lazy is the unwillingness to work or be active. Some Christians fall into this category and they are quick to blame anything in front of them to excuse themselves. They blame the economy, the Government, their parents or relatives and some even blame God. They will claim it is the will of God for them to be poor. That is a lie from the devil.

Our theme verse says one of the causes of poverty is laziness. The truth is according to the word of God, no Child of God has any excuse to be poor and it is never Gods intention for any of his children to be poor. The bibles says God gives power to make wealth, if you are poor as a Christian maybe what you need is to be active in searching the scriptures to find out how to walk in this power.

Secondly the bible says the blessings of God makes rich and adds no sorrow. Thirdly the bible says his wish for us is to prosper and be in health and the list goes on and on. In Corinthians 8:9 we were told expressly that we have been given a grace by our Lord Jesus Christ to become rich through his own poverty. For our sake, He became poor so we through his poverty might become rich.

As a child of God, it is in you to do the word of God. So if you cannot position yourself to believe, act upon the word and affirm these scriptures upon your life to break every chain of lack and want, I think that is laziness. I get ideas when pray, therefore it will become laziness if fail to pray when I need a business idea to produce wealth or when I have a financial need. In such a scenario, I don’t need to feel like praying, prayers become a necessity. God told Joshua to talk the word to become prosperous and David talked about meditating on the word day and night to become prosperous in all things. If you have not done at least these basic guiding principles in the word of God to kill poverty, lack and want out of your life, then you are lazy.

If you say it is God’s will or plan for you to be poor or that God is humbling you with poverty as a Christian and you have not practiced the few principles listed above then you should have a rethink. Do the word first and if you remain poor then you have an argument and I know that will be impossible.
