BEAR EACH OTHER’S BURDEN; IT IS A LAW OF CHRIST
Galatians 6:2- Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
In John 13:34 Jesus stated that ‘ A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another’. In our theme text, Apostle Paul writing to the church in Galatia encouraged them to bear each other up spiritually. If you study from verse 1, he was talking about helping those that are gearing away from the truth, those that have become spiritually lazy, those that are backsliding or those that is beginning to fault in their understanding and interpretation of the word of God. Today, in the body of Christ, in the church of Jesus, we see ministers of the gospel and Christians missing the point here. We are quick to pass judgement on our fellow brethren and co-labourer of the gospel. We forget that the church irrespective of the name or denomination is the body of Christ where Jesus is the head (Ephesians 5:23). Meaning we are one. Jesus gave us a new commandment which is to love one another. Apostle Paul in Galatians 6:2 reveal to us that one of the way to obey that commandment, which he referred to as the law of Christ is by bearing, i.e. helping each other especially those that are straying away from the truth. He never said to curse them or gossip against them but that we should help them up. How? By standing in the gap for them in prayers (Ezekiel 22:30). Pray for that brother or sister that is beginning to act outside the word of God. Pray for that minister that is beginning to teach the wrong doctrines. Don’t be quick to condemn or judge/criticise them. In doing this, you would have fulfilled the law of Christ.
