Be Diligent So That You Will Receive Your Full Reward
2 John 1:8- Watch out that you do not lose what we[e] have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.
This was a letter written by Apostle John to the church of Jesus Christ. This is still very much of relevance to us today. I refer you to this letter particularly to the text above because I believe we need to remind ourselves from time to time about the need to be watchful. Even Jesus Christ why on earth told his disciples to watch and then pray.
The second part of our theme text also admonishes us to be diligent so that we could receive our full reward. Two questions come to mind here; how do you become diligent and what is the full reward?
One of the synonyms of diligent is to be thorough. This simply means that we should be thorough in our walk of faith. Now that you have received the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, become thorough, complete and consistently adhere to its instructions and teachings in his word and work in the light of it. The full reward is to live the Life that God has destine for you here on earth and still be standing with Jesus on the last day. Apostle Paul praying for the church at Ephesus asked that they be rooted and grounded in love and they will be able to comprehend the love of Christ and be filled with all the fullness of God.
I believe that the Apostle is letting us know that although we are now in Christ, this does not automatically guarantee us the full reward in Christ (for we only receive the measure of faith-Romans 12:3). If we watch out against distractors (vile of the devil) and be diligent in our quest to know God and God being love, we will become full with all its fullness.
